Technology-enhanced English Training Seminar

On May 22, 2005 from 10:00 - 11:30 a.m., a seminar on Technology-enhanced English Training for a multi-ethnic workforce was held in the Technology Pavilion at the National Restaurant Association 2005 Show in Chicago.   Adrian R. Escalante, President & CEO, and Spencer Horn, Director of National Accounts, both of Daily Dose Learning Systems, along with Christian Napier, Director, Collectivity, LLC discussed development opportunities in the restaurant industry for those of varied ethnic and cultural backgrounds. The primary focus was on job skills and English training, which enhance opportunities for advancement among workers whose first language is something other than English. Mr. Escalante spoke about the current opportunities and challenges facing employers of foreign-born workers. Mr. Horn demonstrated a learning method called "language huddles", using several people from the audience.   For demonstration purposes, the group learned job skills in Italian, since everyone's primary language was English. As they learned new words and phrases, the "huddle" participants were focused and pleasantly engaged with the process, chuckling at themselves and Mr. Horn as he facilitated the group. Mr. Napier demonstrated a web-based e-Learning product offered by Daily Dose Learning Systems to support and speed-up the learning process for employees of all languages and cultures.
